Food and clothing in the bankruptcy means test One of my jobs as a bankruptcy lawyer is to make you look good on the bankruptcy means test. Here in Northern Virginia, I claim an extra 5% on your food and clothing allowance. The bankruptcy means test law talks about that 5% in 11 USC 707(b)(2)(A)(ii)(l).

Heard a commercial last week for Freedom Debt Relief on WTOP. They said that Freedom Debt Relief offers a “unique” alternative that will save “the most money” and get people out of debt in the “shortest amount of time.” I’ve sued a couple debt relief operations, most notably Legal Helpers Debt Resolution.

I think it’s an FDCPA violation for a debt collector to call itself Law Enforcement Systems. One of my bankruptcy clients brought me a bill from an outfit called Law Enforcement Systems. The bill as for $100.65. That’s 65 cents for a toll they say she didn’t pay.

On June 1, the filing fee for a consumer chapter 7 bankruptcy goes up from $306 to $335. Is that fee fair? Let’s do a comparison. In a month-long jury trial ending yesterday, Apple was awarded $119 million in their patent lawsuit Samsung. Apple had asked for lots more–$2.2 billion–in this battle of smartphone giants.
